Devotional: A Turning Point

"Peter replied, 'Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.'"
Acts 2:38

In the moments leading up to this verse, the crowd in Jerusalem was "cut to the heart." They had realized a devastating truth: they had missed the Messiah. In their desperation, they asked the apostles, "What shall we do?"

Peter’s response wasn't a suggestion for self-improvement or a complex philosophical checklist. It was a three-fold invitation to a brand-new life:

Repent: This is more than feeling sorry; it’s a radical change of mind and direction. It’s an "about-face" where we stop running toward our own desires and start running toward God.

Be Baptized: This is the outward seal of an inward surrender. By being baptized in the name of Jesus, we identify with His death and resurrection, publicly declaring that our old life is buried and our new life has begun.

Receive the Gift: God doesn't leave us to white-knuckle our way through a new lifestyle. He provides the Holy Spirit—the Comforter, the Guide, and the Power Source.

Forgiveness clears the ledger, but the Holy Spirit fills the heart. Today, if you feel "cut to the heart" by the weight of your past or the emptiness of your present, remember that the door is open. Transformation starts with a single step of turning back to the One who has been waiting for you all along.

Heavenly Father,

I thank You that Your grace is always bigger than my mistakes. Today, I choose to repent—to turn away from my own way and turn toward Yours. Wash me clean, fill me with Your Holy Spirit, and give me the strength to walk in the newness of life that only Jesus provides.

In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
