"Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name." Psalm 100:4
It is easy to let our relationship with God become transactional. We often approach Him with a checklist of needs, a heart full of anxieties, or a mind distracted by the noise of the world. We treat prayer like a drive-thru window, rushing to place our order before moving on with our day.
But Psalm 100 calls us to a beautiful change of pace. It invites us to stop at the threshold and change our posture before we even cross the state line into His presence. The Psalmist doesn't say "enter His gates with your grocery list of requests." He says to enter with thanksgiving.
Gratitude is the key that unlocks the door to intimacy with God. When we actively choose to thank Him for who He is and what He has already done, our perspective shifts. We stop focusing entirely on what we lack and start focusing on the abundance of His faithfulness. Praise doesn't change God's disposition toward us—He already loves us perfectly—but it radically transforms our hearts to receive Him.
Today, before you ask for a single thing, take a moment to stand at the gates. Look back at where He has carried you, thank Him for His enduring mercy, and step into His presence with a song of praise.

Lord, thank You for Your unchanging goodness and Your fierce, unfailing love that pursues me every single day. Forgive me for the times I rush into Your presence only focused on what I want, rather than who You are. Today, I simply want to thank You for being my shepherd, my rock, and my home.
Amen.
